SPIKED under the lights SERIES

2021 SAND SHARKS SPIKED "UNDER THE LIGHTS" COED (4V4) SERIES

Founded by Drew Smith in 2015, Spiked "Under The Lights" Monday Night Coed 4v4 Series is in its 6th season. Volleyball players from DelMarVa (Eastern Shores) form teams to compete. The series sponsors include Starboard, Starboard Raw, The Rusty Rudder, Daniel's Painting & Deck Restoration, Big Chill Cantina, Big Chill Beach Club, Woody's, Hipsea Swimwear, Sockwa, and The Sand Sharks Dewey Beach Volleyball Club. Some event dates may use a theme format (I.E.: Ladies Draft, Blind Draw, Costume, King & Queen, etc.) . See the event specific registration page for specifics.

One event per month - May - Sept
Coed 4's OPEN - $1000+ Purse

(OR)

Ladies-Draft - $ 1000 + Purse
9-Teams (3x pools of 3 Teams)
Top-5 to GOLD Div Playoffs (Cash)
Bottom-5 to SILVER Div (Prizes)

SPIKE SERIES (COED- 4V4) RULES

Coed Team Composition

One Female per team and on court is required.
A maximum of (2) open-level men are allowed per team (Players who compete regionally in the men's open division under 40)
Teams can play with a minimum of 3 players
Teams can roster more than 4 players but only 2 open level men are allowed on the court for any game (substitutions allowed per game).

Spike Series Volleyball Rules

Most traditional indoor volleyball rules apply with a few hybrid specifics for this series.

Full Court
Official Wilson Beach Volleyballs (AVP or NCAA)
Let-serves are allowed
No open-hand serve-receive allowed
Tips and dinks (with finger action) are allowed
Setting over (with finger action) is allowed
No substitutions during a game (even if someone gets injured)
Substitutions are allowed per game
Work teams keep score, and line-judge, and may Referee if an official Ref is not available

Purse and Prizes

The purse = 80% or more of all team registration fees are awarded to the top-2 teams in an 80/20 split. Sponsor cash contributions for each event will increase payouts. Other contributions will be issued as prizes to finalists and semi-finalists.

Limit of 9 Teams per Event

The 1st 10 teams to sign up and meet the required team criteria and pay a deposit fee are guaranteed entry.
Up to (2) additional teams will be wait-listed.
If a team drops, they must notify the Tournament Director by the Wednesday prior to the event to receive a refund.
Refunds will be issued if the tournament is cancelled for any reason.
